Abstract

The Harmonics are very harmful within an electrical system and can have serious consequences such as reducing the life of apparatus, stress on cable and equipment etc. This paper cites extensive analytical study of harmonic characteristics of multiphase (six- phase) and three-phase system equipped with two & three level inverters for non-linear loads.  Multilevel inverter has elevated voltage capability with voltage limited devices; low harmonic distortion; abridged switching losses. Multiphase technology also pays a promising role in harmonic reduction. Matlab simulation is carried out to compare the advantage of multi-phase over three phase systems equipped with two or three level inverters for non-linear load harmonic reduction.The extensive simulation results are presented based on case studies.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/ijpeds.v5i2.5166

Abstract

Wind turbine WT occupies gradually a large part in world energy market, Doubly fed induction generator DFIG is mostly used in WT, it allow highly flexible active and reactive power generation control. This paper presents dynamic modeling and simulation of a doubly fed induction generator based on grid-side and rotor-side converter control. The DFIG, grid-side converter, rotor-side converter, and its controllers are performed in MATLAB/Simulink software. Dynamic response in grid connected mode for variable speed wind operation is investigated. Simulation results on a 3 MW DFIG system are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed control strategy during variations of active and reactive power, rotor speed, and converter dc link voltage.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/ijpeds.v5i2.6477

Abstract

This Paper emphasizes on proposing a cost effective photovoltaic (PV) fed 3 phase Induction motor drive which serves for rural pumping applications. Generally in a standalone system, the PV unit will charge the battery and the battery set up in turn will serve as a source for the inverter. A new single stage battery less power conversion is employed by designing a maximum power point tracker (MPPT) embedded boost converter which makes the overall cost of the setup to go down considerably. The realized as a prototype consisting PV array of 500watts, MPPT aided boost converter, three phase inverter and a three phase squirrel cage induction drive of 300 watts. An efficient and low cost micro controller dspic4011 is used a platform to code and implement the prominent perturb and observe MPPT technique .Sinusoidal pulse width modulation (SPWM) is the  control technique employed for  the three phase  inverter. To validate the experimental results simulation of the whole set up is carried out in matlab /simulink environment. Abstract

This paper presents sensorless speed control of induction motor (IM) using four switch three phase inverter (FSTPI) with direct torque and flux control (DTFC). The proposed sensorless DTFC system consists of an adaptive observer of rotor flux to accurately estimate stator resistance and speed simultaneously, without affecting drive performances. The switching technique for DTFC of IM using FSTPI in low power application is based on the principle of similarity between FSTPI and SSTPI (six switch three phase inverter), where the αβ plan is divided into 6 sectors and the formation of the voltage space vector is done in the same way as for SSTPI by using effective (mean) vectors. This approach allows using the well-known established switching table of SSTPI for FSTPI. The simulation results indicates that the sensorless speed control of FSTPI fed IM with DTFC and adaptive observer provides accurate estimate, good trajectory tracking with different dynamics performance. Abstract

This article presents a model of pulsed Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM) using RL circuit. There are several mathematical models have been successfully developed based on the initial, ignition and discharge phase of current and voltage gap. According to these models, the circuit schematic of transistor pulse power generator has been designed using electrical model in Matlab Simulink software to identify the profile of voltage and current during machining process. Abstract

The major power quality issue of voltage flicker has resulted as a serious concern for the customers and heavy power companies. Voltage flicker is an impression of unsteadiness of visual sensation induced by a light source whose luminance fluctuates with time. This phenomenon is experienced when an Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) as load is connected to the power system. Flexible AC transmission devices (FACTS) devices were gradually utilized for voltage flicker reduction. In this paper the FACTS device of Distribution Static Synchronous Compensator (D-STATCOM) is used to serve the purpose of mitigating voltage flickering caused by electric arc furnace load, which is efficiently controlled by Icosɸ control algorithm. Abstract

This paper proposes a Hybrid AC/DC Microgrid in alliance with Photo Voltaic (PV) energy, Wind Energy and Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) Fuel cells. Microgrids are becoming increasingly attractive to the researchers because of the less greenhouse gases, low running cost, and flexibility to operate in connection with utility grid. The Hybrid AC/DC Microgrid constitutes independent AC and DC subgrids, where all the corresponding sources and loads are connected to their respective buses and these buses are interfaced using an interfacing converter. The Hybrid AC/DC Microgrid increases system efficiency by reducing the multiple reverse conversions involved in conventional RES integration to grid. A Small Hybrid AC/DC Microgrid in grid connected mode was modeled and simulated in MATLAB-SIMULINK environment. Abstract

In this charging system, constant-current charging technique keeps the current flow into the battery on its maximum range of 2A. The use of fuzzy logic control of this charging system is to control the value of PWM. PWM is controlling the value of current flowing to the battery during the charging process. The current value into the battery depends on the value of battery voltage and also its temperature. Abstract

This paper presents a current mode Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) controlled Flyback converter using UC3842 for Electrical Discharge Machining current generator control circuit. Circuit simplicity and high efficiency can be achieved by a Flyback converter with current mode PWM controller. The behaviors of the system's operation is analyzed and discussed by varying the load resistance. Abstract

This paper presents the speed performance analysis of indirect Field Oriented Control (FOC) induction motor drive by applying Proportional Integral (PI) controller, PI with Anti-Windup (PIAW) and Pre- Filter (PF). The objective of this experiment is to have quantitative comparison between the controller strategies towards the performance of the motor in term of speed tracking and load rejection capability in low, medium and rated speed operation. In the first part, PI controller is applied to the FOC induction motor drive which the gain is obtained based on determined Induction Motor (IM) motor parameters.  Secondly an AWPI strategy is added to the outer loop and finally, PF is added to the system. The Space Vector Pulse Width Modulation (SVPWM) technique is used to control the voltage source inverter and complete vector control scheme of the IM drive is tested by using a DSpace 1103 controller board. The analysis of the results shows that, the PI and AWPI controller schemes produce similar performance at low speed operation. However, for the medium and rated speed operation the AWPI scheme shown significant improvement in reducing the overshoot problem and improving the setting time. The PF scheme on the other hand, produces a slower speed and torque response for all tested speed operation.
